Hi, I’m Bruce!
Looking for an engaging children’s author to inspire your students? I offer fun, interactive author visits for elementary and early middle schools that encourage reading, writing, and creativity.
As the author of over 70 books ranging from picture books to novels, I am uniquely qualified to speak with all elementary grades from kindergarten to sixth grade. Having been a reluctant reader myself, I know how to reach those kids who haven’t yet discovered the magic of books. And my years of working as an actor and professional speaker have given me the skills to engage and motivate groups of kids.

Unfortunately, we won’t be a great fit if…
…you’re looking for an author to visit with grade 7 and above. Or, if you need someone to visit individual classrooms and do 5 to 6 presentations per day, this author visit isn’t for you.
Two ways to engage your students:
Author Assembly
(grades K – 6)
A blend of character education, stand-up comedy, and pro-literacy message, this highly interactive assembly includes:
- Storytelling from one of Bruce’s books,
- Audiovisual presentation about his journey from reluctant reader to author,
- Question-and-answer session with the audience,
- A brief cartooning lesson.
Although the basic presentation remains similar, Bruce will alter it for different grades to be age-specific. No limits on the number of students in an assembly.
Story Power Workshop
(grades 3 – 6)
Energize your writing program by introducing your students to the fundamentals of story writing in a fun, lively format. Session includes:
- Storytelling,
- The creative process,
- Basic story elements, and
- The creation of a group story right on the spot.
Workshop is a 50-minute, interactive session – for no more than 100 students.

Why me? (Asked in a good way)
Unlike many other children’s book authors, I write and illustrate books for the entire elementary school range of ages. And because of my training as an actor, speaker and storyteller, I know how to keep a young audience engaged and inspired.
I understand it may seem like an author visit is a big investment of time and money, however, with over 20 years’ experience of visiting schools across the U.S. and around the world, I know how to motivate kids while making the author visit a successful and seamless experience for the school.

Can Bruce speak to all grades at my school?
Bruce can present to audiences in grades K – 6.
Can we order books to get autographed?
Yes, Bruce works with an author representative who has a simple online system for book ordering.
Are travel expenses included in the honorarium?
No, they are not. Travel and lodging are billed separately.
We don’t have the budget for an in person Author Visit. Are there other options?
The name of the game is fun engagement with kids, in whatever format. I also provide Virtual School Visits.
What if my school wants more than three assemblies?
Bruce has three Author Visit Packages to help meet different schools’ needs. The Gold and Platinum packages both include extra presentations, and the school can choose between additional assemblies, writing workshops, or cartooning workshops.
Can we have a preview video to help get the students pumped up?
Yes, Bruce’s Gold and Platinum Visit Packages both include an advance video greeting for students.
