Whenever a mystery lands on my plate, I dig right in. But this particular case had me choking on my clues. The investigation began with my favorite librarian being replaced by a contraption called a Bibliomalgamator. Bad enough.
But then the supernatural and the high-tech collided, and my case took a turn for the weird. Teacher’s pets were talking back, second graders were roughing up sixth graders, witches were spotted at school, and — weirdest of all — my partner Natalie abandoned me in my hour of need.
Was I able to turn it around and save the day? Not to worry. As any detective will tell you, it’s always darkest before the dawn. So if you’re going to steal your neighbor’s newspaper, that’s the time to do it.
The story unfolds in Chet’s entertaining first-person narrative, laced with puns, wisecracks, and mentions of edible treats involving insect ingredients.
